I don't expect miracle, but, as I remember this film, its a child-hood story told by many people and Walt Disney. I spent my childhood watching this film, and since I'm an old man now, I expect this VHS TAPE to be passed on in video by my family to my children. I don't think anyone could block the remaking of this film or would want to, but it's high time that we make things a bit less idiotic in our society. I thought that censorship was unconstitutional. I'm so totally disappointed about the outcome of this, bu t there is nothing you can do but call up Disney yourself and ask them what is going on. The film introduces us to Uncle Remus, a man that stays down at the fishing hole and is able to know many different small creatures, like Brear Rabbit and the small singing birds. You may think that someone in charge may have suppressed this film from coming back into mainstream, or that someone may have royalty rights tying things up, but whatever the reasons, you might never see this film again. I don't know why Disney can't go back and re-release this film. for what I assume has to do with racism and bigotry, which I happen to think is absolutely preposterous, since this was a wonderful G RATED film and an early american time piece that everyone truly enjoyed watching. The original film Song of the South was banned in the U.S. She even tries her own hand on two amazing renditions of such classics as Willie Nelson’s “You Were Always on Mind” and Porgy and Bess’ “Summertime” which mesh well alongside the other 11 tracks.Zippety Doo Da. “I’m just a girl trying to make a way/think it’s so hard but I’ll be okay/I don’t really care what the people say/’cause this is me.”įreee Yourselfes listeners a little taste of what this American Idol has to offer musically. The song explains about Fantasia’s experiences growing up and how she will remain true to herself. Jazze Pha also contributes to Barrino’s project with “Don’t Act Right”.įantasia also gives listeners an introspective view of her life through “This is Me”. The Rodney Jerkins produced track, “It’s All Good”, gives a feeling of being at a football game with its blaring whistles and drum line entertainment. Barrino’s collaborations with Missy Elliott (Aaliyah, 702, Tweet) produce some of the album’s best cuts, including the title track from the album as well as “Good Lovin'”, a down tempo track slathered in soul and rich vinyl cracklings.Īlthough the set contains a great deal of strong ballads, the album does give a few up-tempo tracks. Much of the material written for Fantasia allows her to shine vocally instead of being layered down by the background music.
Lyrics such as “I’m usually not the type to just lay it down and quit/But a lot men would get with it/So I ain’t gonna beg you no more” give the listener an inside view on Fantasia’s world. No doubt viewers from the third American Idol season fathomed such an outstanding album after some hit-and-miss records from former American Idol hopefuls.įree Yourself kicks off with The Underdogs produced “Ain’t Gonna Beg” which displays Barrino’s self-confidence and how she doesn’t settle for anything less than what she deserves yet never overshadows her powerful voice but aids it in giving her a catalyst to deal with her past love issues. Never before has America heard hurt and pain in song like that of which Fantasia Barrino sings on with her debut album, Free Yourself.
